Behind The Brand

The Story Behind Louise Noir

Louise Noir began with me, a young college student with ideas, but no clear direction for where they could lead. I had so many thoughts about what I might create and who I could become, but I was not completely confident in any of them yet. Starting this brand was my way of finally choosing one idea, taking a chance on myself, and discovering what could happen if I simply tried. I wanted to see where the journey might take me, and prove to myself that I was capable of bringing something meaningful to life.

The name Louise Noir is deeply personal. Louise is a French name meaning “renowned warrior” or “famous in battle.” It is also me and my grandmother’s middle name, representing the lineage of strong women who came before me and the strength they passed down. Noir means “black” in French. To me, black is bold, powerful, elegant, and timeless, but it also represents my identity as a Black woman. Together, the name honors both my heritage and the person I am becoming.

Louise Noir is more than clothing; it is a reflection of my life in real time. Each collection captures the thoughts, emotions, challenges, and lessons I am experiencing while creating it. Every piece becomes part of my personal growth, a time capsule I can revisit to remember who I was, what I was facing, and how far I have come.

The first collection, Silent Minds, was created in the midst of mental disarray—a period filled with loud thoughts, internal battles, and emotions that were not always visible to others. Its message, “The loudest noise is the one no one hears,” speaks to the struggles people often carry silently. I am grateful that something created during such an uncertain time became a product I am genuinely proud of. Silent Minds represents the beginning of Louise Noir and the first chapter of a story that is still being written.
